Trackside For Winter Nationals Getting Our Ears Blown Apart

There’s nothing quite like the Winternationals.

From the moment the first nitro engines fired to the final pass, Willowbank Raceway was alive with the biggest drag racing event on the calendar, steeped in history, horsepower and pure adrenaline the Winternats is a full body shock! As Australia's premier drag racing event and one of the largest championship drag racing events outside North America, the 2026 Gulf Western Oil Winternationals delivered four huge days of world-class racing, record-breaking performances and unforgettable moments. 

This year, the Heat Wave Visual Australia team was proud to be on-site, activating our stand, connecting with fans, showcasing our eyewear range, and spending time behind the scenes with the Aeroflow Bitto Funny Car team.

Four Days of Full-Throttle Action

The Winternationals brought together more than 500 race cars and motorcycles from across Australia, with championship battles unfolding across Top Fuel, Nitro Funny Car, Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Pro Mod and the Aeroflow Sportsman categories.

The atmosphere around Willowbank was fuely to say the least and hard to be missed for miles if you put your ear to the wind . Whether you were in the grandstands, walking the pits, or standing next to the fence feeling the shockwaves from an 11,000-horsepower nitro machine, every run reminded you why the Winternationals sits at the top of Australian drag racing.

Behind the Scenes with Team Aeroflow Nitro Funny Car

Standing on the line behind a raging 11,000 horsepower Nitro Funny Car about to launch sends the senses to new heights! A controlled explosion for speed and sound, this year we were stoked to spend time alongside the Aeroflow Nitro Funny Car team.

While fans see the high octane launches and sound bites tipping the scales of the 520+ km/h passes, what happens behind the scenes is equally impressive. Between rounds, crew members work tirelessly to tear down, inspect and rebuild major components under tight timeframes to turn the car around and get it back to the line ready to go again. Every second counts and precision is everything, there are no practice runs!

Being immersed in that environment gave us an even greater appreciation for the professionalism, focus and commitment required to compete at the highest level of Australian drag racing.
