Tasmania Super 440 Wrap-Up: Mostert Breaks Through as Walkinshaw TWG Racing Shows Serious Pace

The hills of Symmons Plains played host to Races 14 and 15 of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship, and for Heat Wave fans there was plenty to be excited about.

Most importantly, reigning champion Chaz Mostert reminded the paddock exactly why he carries the number one on the door, delivering a dominant victory in Race 14 and giving Toyota and Walkinshaw TWG Racing their biggest statement of the season so far.

Race 14: Chaz Returns to the Top Step

Saturday started in style for Mostert, who mastered the tricky Tasmanian conditions to secure pole position in qualifying. It was Toyota's first pole of the season and a sign that the Mobil1 Optus Racing Supra had genuine speed around Symmons Plains.

When the lights went out, Mostert wasted little time asserting control. After briefly losing the lead at the start, he fought back, took command of the race and never looked troubled from there. Strong pace, clean execution and a faultless pit stop from the Walkinshaw TWG crew saw him pull away to claim his first victory of the 2026 season by more than five seconds.

The result was also significant historically, marking Toyota's first Supercars victory of the season and confirming the Supra's growing competitiveness in championship trim.

Race 14 Results – Walkinshaw TWG Racing

    • Chaz Mostert - 1st
    • Ryan Wood - 14th

Race 15: Pace Was There, But Luck Wasn't

If Race 14 showcased the potential of the Walkinshaw TWG package, Race 15 highlighted how quickly fortunes can change in Supercars.

After another strong qualifying performance and showing impressive speed throughout the day, Mostert's afternoon unravelled following contact and a subsequent penalty that dropped him down the order. What could have been another podium challenge quickly became a damage-limitation exercise.

While the final result wasn't representative of the pace shown by the #1 Toyota, the positives were impossible to ignore. Across both qualifying sessions and races, Mostert consistently featured at the front of the field and looked far more comfortable in the Supra than at any point earlier in the season.

Ryan Wood continued his learning curve in the new Walkinshaw TWG Toyota program, banking valuable experience in another highly competitive Supercars weekend. The young Kiwi showed flashes of speed throughout the event despite not getting the headline result he was chasing.

    The Weekend by the Numbers

    • Pole Position for Chaz Mostert (Race 14)
    • Race 14 Winner by 5.3 seconds
    • First 2026 victory for Mostert
    • First Toyota victory of the 2026 Supercars season
    • Strong qualifying pace across both Saturday sessions

Next stop: another opportunity for Chaz Mostert and Walkinshaw TWG Racing to build momentum as the championship fight heats up. One thing is certain, after Tasmania, nobody will be overlooking the #1 Toyota anymore.
